Head Massaging System

Head Massaging System<

Background and Need

Stress is a feeling of emotional or physical tension. It can come from any event or thought that makes you feel frustrated, angry, or nervous. Stress is our body's reaction to a challenge or demand. In short bursts, stress can be positive, such as when it helps us to avoid danger or meet a deadline. But when stress lasts for a long time, it may harm our health. In an ethnographic study, it is observed that the stress management system is required, whenever a person has to work out his assignment consistently with a high concentration which reflects directly or indirectly over social welfare and needs. The human efforts reflect in the area of transportation, where the consciousness of the driver and supporting staff plays a vital role. Similarly, in government offices, IT sectors the continuous efforts of the human brain is required and essential to achieving the target. The result of the continuous effort is stress which affects our health and lifestyle. In practice, if any person wants to relieve from the stress he has to depend on the massaging center which is not possible during working tenure. Hence it is proposed to design a compact, wearable, self-owned massaging system that helps a person to relieve from his stress without interrupting from his regular work routine.

Preliminary Investigations and Problem Formulation

In today’s world, a person wants stress relief means there are several possible ways but that is not adopted in a regular lifestyle. Separate time allocation is required to adopt such practices. Some of the common practices to get relief from stress are

1.Headspace

Headspace bills itself as a gym membership for your mind and that's as good a description as any. What's great about the app is that it begins with a free, 10-day program that gets you started on mindfulness meditation in only 10 minutes a day so you can get a good idea of how the app works. Paid subscriptions (which start at $12.95 a month and range up to $419.95 for a forever subscription) give you access to a wide range of programs from daily exercises to targeted approaches that can help you bring mindfulness and relaxation into every part of your life.

2.Pacifica

This app is based on cognitive behavioral therapy, which helps people help themselves by changing their own behavior and thinking patterns. Pacifica also incorporates wellness and relaxation methods for a well-rounded app that helps you track your moods and thoughts, set daily goals, and use relaxation techniques to eliminate stress. Subscriptions start at $3.99 a month with free cancelation after the first week.

3. Stress Thermometer

If you don't have hundreds to shell out on biofeedback, the Stress Thermometer costs $21.95 device that will give you a taste of how biofeedback works. It operates on a simple premise: When you're tense, your hands get cold; when you're relaxed, they warm up. By measuring the rapidly fluctuating temperature of a finger, the Stress Thermometer can help you learn to relax.

In all the above investigations, we cannot adopt any methodology by undergoing our regular work and all the above devices sound with good price.

Our aim is to propose a stress management device with affordable cost and to use during our regular working tenure without any deviation.

Objectives

Exploring the functions of existing devices

Selection of raw materials for designing the product.

Designing the product according to customer need.

Testing the product in a different working environment.

Action Plan

Ethnographic study

Creation of paper models with different ideas using the mindmup tool.

Selection of best idea using pugh matrix.

Exploring functional and physical decomposition of the selected idea.

Creating a prototype of the selected idea

Testing with the community partner and obtaining feedback.

Final prototype as per the customer need.

Deliverables

A smart machine is a human assistance device that was modeled to perform various types of massages. The focus of this smart machine is to resolve the human-related concerts. This smart machine is designed with simple mechanisms controlled by Arduino that include mouse of the head (with paper and glue), rotator with plastic(bottle caps), vibrators, pressure developers, eye massager, music system to induce music therapy.

Duration : 6 months

Action Taken

The details of the processes required on the massager had been clearly understood in consultation with the community partner. The conceptual design of the device was visualized.. Earlier the message system requires separate handling time and requires some trained professional to do the same. The prototype was tested for the required operation. The design was finalized after testing by the users in actual working condition. The model of improved device was handed over to community partner for testing in the field conditions.

The project was demonstrated in the product expo Innovation Initiative, at S R Engineering College, and appreciated by the experts
